Park Renovation Update - February, 2008
Renovation Slide Show
Excited yet? The Friends of Jefferson Square Park sure are! Our long-awaited renovations are well underway. Over the next few months, the park will be getting several new sidewalks, 20 classic turn-of-the-century style post lamps, all new benches, all new wastebaskets, historic-replica cast iron urns for the remaining entrance pillars, a couple new trees and magnolia bushes at the park’s four center entrances. This will make our neighborhood park a shining showplace and a focal point of the community that surrounds it. This will further increase positive use of the park and raise home values. Yet, there is still more to do! We need help organizing events and volunteers to help us keep the park clean. We hope to one day get a statue in the park’s center. And, although we’ve planted dozens of new trees, many of the park’s trees are reaching the end of their expected life cycles. There is still much to do. If you are interested in joining us, to volunteer or just hear what is going on, please send us an email and we will place you on our confidential distribution list for news updates and monthly meeting announcements.
Street Trees - Spring, 2008
Ten homeowners participated with our street tree program this past Fall. For a $25 charge, they will be receiving the bare-root tree of their choice sometime next month, and free sidewalk block removal in advance. Orignially we expected the homeowners to remove the block on their own, but new funding provided by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society will remove the blocks. We hope to participate with this program annually, helping to provide street trees to interested hoemowners in the community.

Spring Is On The Way!
Thousands of tulips, daffodils and crocuses will be in bloom this Spring in Jefferson Square Park. Each Fall over the last several years, our Friends group has held volunteer bulb plantings, increasing the number of flowers in the park. Take time to “smell the roses” this Spring and take a stroll through the park!
